This series includes original letters and reports received from government farmers, field clerks, constables, and social workers and copies of letters sent to them by the superintendent. The correspondence relates to general procedures, daily activities, and specific cases. The files for individual Osages contain correspondence with the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Federal and State government agencies, the general public, and the individual relating to the management of their financial affairs. The files also include notarized statements of indebtedness and related bills and promissory notes, canceled checks, appraisal reports on land and real property, and various application and accounting forms relating to the expenditure of trust funds.

In 1851 the Osage Subagency and the Neosho Subagency were combined to form the Neosho Agency which was responsible for the Osage, Quapaw, Seneca, and Mixed Band of Seneca and Shawnee. This agency was placed under the Southern Superintendency where it remained until transferred to the Western Superintendency in 1867.
